Project summary:
Since 2018 I have updated the website with a new look and now it is time to update the technology. The website appeared insecure and after the troubleshooting, then I realized the site builded with Drupal was too old. The site required a lot of work for updates, it rather to optimising a new human-centered responsive website which is based on users need and desire. I opitimized SSGI’s website www.ssgi.se Svenska Soka Gakkai International (SSGI). Soka Gakkai International (SGI) is an organization with 12 million members around the world, it exists today in 192 countries. SGI has embraced Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism, a dynamic philosophy grounded in daily life. Buddhist practice builds inner strength and leads to "human revolution", i.e. personal development through inner change. It enables each individual to take responsibility for his life and contribute to creating a world where people of different cultures and faith orientations can coexist in peace.
The problem:
-
The current website was not active.
-
The information is out of date.
-
Poor technical support for editor/leader to update the website.
-
The users' GUI (Graphical user interface) and functions were not user-friendly and only a few leaders who have access to the website and the knowledge to use it, therefore it has been a major obstacle to keeping the website up to date.
The solution:
We will focus on "user analysis", the user's benefit and that the website will succeed in introducing Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism and SGI to people. In order to achieve this goal, we have prepared several different usability tests. For instance, expert evaluation, interview for both new people and members of different ages, a quality survey and observation.
The goal:
Our project goal is to enhance the website's appeal, particularly to young visitors.
We aim to create an engaging platform where members can easily discover accurate event details, study materials, and relevant information.
Our objective is to inspire everyone and cultivate a positive, dynamic energy on the website, aligning with SGI's core values of Peace, Education, and Culture.
Design process:
I am currently working on optimisation the website and conduct variety usability testing with mobile first adaptive design and continuously keep the Cast Study up-to-date
Quality survey
We conducted a survey among all members in Sweden and received 36 responses, primarily from individuals aged between 25 and 65 years old. The survey revealed the most popular features and themes that users are interested in, including Nichiren Buddhism, 'What is SSGI,' and the 'Top Ten Questions.' Additionally, users expressed a desire for improved communication regarding new developments, publications, and events. Many users also provided valuable additional comments, enriching our research process.
User interviews
I conducted also user interviews with 5 members in different division to gain understanding and insights of user needs, problem and their motivation. With open ended questions, I gather useful insight also of their emotion value.
56.9% are using mobile
Implementing a mobile-first responsive adaptive design and opting for a website over an app can significantly enhance SEO, making content more accessible through searches.
We enhance user experience by analyzing the specific needs and behaviors of special users across various devices. Through usability tests and insights gathered from UX benchmarking, we gain valuable information on how users interact with different devices, what they aim to achieve, and optimize the design accordingly.
User journeys
Content ideas and Site map
I met with supervisors and project owners regularly to keep them updated and get feedback. The goal for the project was clear and part of the task was completed before the project began. New material, I and the supervisor had divided the responsibility for by contacting various members and leaders in SSGI to get help with the translations already last year. At the same time I collected translations for new content.
